The way to Troubleshoot a GE Arctica Fridge

The minimalist expression of the Profile series extends across dishwashers, ranges, vent hoods, and side and top-freezer refrigerators like those in the Arctica line, so named because of their high-powered built-in ice makers. GE produces dozens of Arctica-equipped Profile fridges, which include the digits 22 through 29 in their version numbers.

Simple Solutions

If your Arctica seems to be nonoperational, the appliance may be in its defrost cycle, so wait for approximately 30 to 40 minutes for the defrost cycle to finish before taking further troubleshooting steps. A nonoperational refrigerator may signal a power issue; check your home’s electric service panel and replace any blown fuses or reset some other tripped breakers.

Air and Water Flow

If the refrigerator works but doesn’t produce the desired temperature, cut back on departing its door open; leaving the door ajar for too long may cause problems ranging from ice crystals or moisture buildup to an overly warm refrigerator or freezer. Food freezing in the fridge probably is too close the air vent. If your refrigerator includes a filter cartridge — as side models 23, 25, 26, 27 and 29 do — replace the cartridge to encourage adequate water flow to the water dispenser and ice maker. Find the filter cartridge in the rear, upper-right corner of the fridge compartment. Twist the cartridge counterclockwise to remove it, and flip the new filter clockwise into the cartridge holder to install it. Run the water dispenser for approximately three minutes to prevent sputtering, then press and hold the “Reset Water Filter” button for three seconds.

Ice Maker Issues

When properly working, ice makers of the Arctica series produce and store up to 10 pounds of ice at one time. If your ice maker doesn’t produce ice at all, check its switch; some Arctica ice makers have an “On/Off” switch, and many others have switches labeled “I/II.” Flip the switch to the “I” setting. Verify the water supply attached to your fridge is turned on to allow the ice maker to produce cubes. If a green light appears on the ice maker and it ceases producing ice, then turn the ice maker to the “Off” or “II” atmosphere and remove clumped blocks or blocks that have piled up close to the surface of the bin.

Get a Hold of GE

Complex problems like compressor, condenser or refrigerant issues call for a hand away from professional technicians. If fundamental troubleshooting steps do not do the trick, contact the producer’s Answer Center or submit a query via the form in GE’s official site. When purchased new and registered at GE’s site, GE Profile Arctica refrigerators incorporate a limited warranty that covers up to five or 10 years, depending on the version.
