Houzz Interview: Iro (aka Ivy Design) from Active Bee's Website

When we found the house of Iro on her website and on Flickr, we were struck by her calm awareness of design and her amazing storyline. The house she shares with her boy friend, “The Penthouse,” is continuously evolving, but usually an excellent case of clear, minimal fashion.

On her website, Active Bee’s Website, Iro shares stunning pictures of her home, along with some other sources of design inspiration (her Flickr sets, are excellent, also). We talked about her narrative and guidance for the Houzz neighborhood, and caught up with her lately.

Please inform us about your “first assembly” along with your home

The initial assembly together with the Penthouse was created on the display of a Computer, in a internet café, someplace in the middle of Athens, under Acropolis. It was when my present partner and quite shortly determined that we wished to to experience living-together and I’d met.

Selecting a flat on line was the easiest option in those days, since I had been living in Greece and he in Germany ( being German). We were searching for something fine to focus on and soon after we we noticed the images of the Penthouse – gallery – flat, we both concurred that it was the one that was correct.

I was interested in the enormous window using the semi-circular depth, the cylindrical stairway that lead up to the gallery – second-floor as well as the truth that it’s a couple of meters from a wonderful park ( Verna Park) by the river Principal.

Therefore, to make the lengthy tale brief, my first meeting together with the flat was below the sway of extreme, fresh emotions of love and several hopes.

What’s the initial step of your decorating procedure?

The opening of the decorating method for me personally, will be to take into consideration all the essential options that come with the space. Those would function as the architectural components ( in case that there are any – coz that’s not usually achievable ), the day light mild, how big the the area and last but not at all least, the budget and style of the people that would like to inhabit it.

I personally prefer to own easy, minimal and unbiased large pieces of furniture, that’ll allow for improvements of little furniture and items of various designs. Not to mention, I’ m affectionate of homes that increase together with the people that aren’t and live in them, at once, fully intended to the last element.

Portion of the decorating method for me personally, is also a re-cycling procedure, which entails, reusing items, giving or selling them, in buy for brand new things to be added up in your house. That’s a method of retaining an area refreshing, maybe not feeling litter with way too many matters, so managing to always keep that unique feeling we’ve got in a pretty new house.

What’s the greatest decorating problem you have confronted?

Nicely, decorating this Penthouse was type of challenging in my experience, but must confess that it was a rather simple procedure, despite the fact that it involved a number of my furniture arriving in a path from Greece and joining them with some bits that my spouse employed to have in his prior location. We don’t have the exact same flavor, but generally we concur on how points should be and I have to confess that I ‘m provided lots of liberty to state myself as I enjoy them, in the Penthouse and do issues.

What’s the largest decorating problem you have confronted?

My largest ornamentation challenge though, is the one I confronted this summer in Greece, having to totally renovate a fresh – old flat my parents purchased and performing it under intense time strain rather than the largest budget on the planet

From tearing down partitions, to ripping out fully the kitchen, the bath, the cupboards in the bedrooms, to installing new water-pipes, wooden flooring and tiles in the verandas. A procedure that continued for 6 months and functions were being finished even until several days ago, me having came ultimately back in Germany in the meantime and being forced to organize everything about the telephone number.

Yes, that was challenging and is still as I‘m traveling therein a week to get a quick while, this time to do the most enjoyable part, of organising and decorating the spot.

Describe your preferred style and colours

I actually enjoy diverse insides, that have a sense of singularity. Overall I ‘d say that I adore straightforward, minimum type with touches of classic, and some mid – century items, together with astonishing and delightful details.

I adore white because of its totality and brightness and for the truth that it creates an ideal canvas to perform on, with distinct dashes of colour. I quite definitely such as the heat that natural stuff, including wood, rattan and raffia, provide to some place.

What Is the one place in your property which makes you most pleased or proud?

I adore the large window in this flat and that I appreciate being in my studying corner, which I adorned with framed wall-paper samples, a job of mine that appeared to be rather welcome particularly from the Flickr buddies.

What Is your most valuable accessory, piece of furniture or work art?

I cherish plenty of things, mainly for psychological reasons but something that I sense h-AS provided the tone and added to the present fashion of the Penthouse, is the gold, classic Albert Van Luit background from 1965.

I was fortunate to locate several rolls of such different layouts in a store in Athens and since I’ve them, I think that I possess some thing really precious! I do believe it helps that a number are stamped and signed.

What Is your next house job?

My next house job is the kitchen. I ‘d like to possess some portion of the partitions painted a darkish gray as well as chalkboard not white and of program subsequently correct the facts.
I was designed to have it-done by now, but totally miscalculated and must postpone it for after my return from Greece.

What are the 5 points that houzz viewers must find out about your weblog?

I developed Active Bee’s site after being fully inspired with numerous excellent sites about layout, ornamentation, images, artsandcrafts held by mo-Re or less expert bloggers. I used to be fascinated by the capacity to speak directly with others, who possess the similar or same interests.

Being a really new blogger, I find things in the procedure for doing them, that meaning the site is and will be evolving for really some time until it achieves the specified regularity, fashion as well as content.

At the present time there are places associated with my Flickr account, where I’m discovered as ivy style33, which usually call for images of the Penthouse and assorted jobs I’ve done. Also, I ‘d like presenting mo Re of favorite areas that I see throughout my lifestyle, which can be spread in cities for example Ruesselsheim Frankfurt, Mainz and Wiesbaden. And invested several years educating kids and having researched Psych, I ‘d like to come up with issues that are comparative. In this particular context, jobs which might be carried through in the Arts&Crafts in courses and seminars with my small pupils, will be explained.

finally, through keeping this web log, describing images on Flickr, composing comments and replying to folks’s queries, I realised how much I like to compose and take pleasure in the peacefulness discovered in these minutes. It’s to being c-Reative, a fantastic addition! It ’s still another type of creative thinking, new but quite welcome in my experience

What’s your absolute best suggestion for the decorating novice?

I’ d say practice makes perfect, like in every-thing! Your style as well as read, appear, get inspired, spend interest to your own space, attempt to maintain a harmony while at the exact same time in and during your property! Not to mention, do attempt outside points

Thanks therefore significantly, Iro, for sharing your lovely, peaceful house together with the Houzz neighborhood!
