Easels Take a Stand

Easels aren’t just for artists. This portable alternative way to display artwork can look quite chic and match within the context of any area. From tabletop models used to display smaller work to oversized floor bits used to showcase large oil paintings, easels give an easy vehicle to create a statement with your art.

The easel itself dates back to ancient Egypt, where large panels rested tripod structures. There are numerous types of it, from the very basic tripod to the travel easel. The screen easel became popular for presentations and also to showcase artwork within the home. There are a selection of versions, from ornate and wooden to sleek and modern acrylic. Outdoor artists’ traveling easels also have become popular for displaying bits and look great in home offices or libraries.

Just take a look in any way ways individuals are using the easel — and preventing putting another mark in their walls.

An ornate silver screen easel greets vistors in the entryway of the home. The piece of artwork being displayed is a abstract print just framed in brushed silver. This produces a nice juxtaposition of styles between the traditional, embellished easel and the modern print, setting the tone for the rest of the space.

An antique brass table easel blends in with the rest of the items with this round dining table, allowing art to be part of this tabletop vignette.

This is an artist’s easel, and you get the feeling that the painting is being worked on or was recently finished.

A casual use of this travel easel works well. Certainly it is being used in a practical manner, using an oversize pad. A whiteboard may ruin the appearance of this warm home office, however the easel is in keeping with all the homey vibe.

Here, a stunning display easel is used in an uberformal and dramatic dining space. The mirror hanging on the wall creates quite a statement, so anything wrapped beside it would get lost. The screen easel is the best way to provide artwork prominent placement in this area.

The walls in this beautiful, tranquil bedroom are better left untouched. This very simple tripod easel doesn’t take up much space and nicely blends into the environment. Change the artwork according to the mood that you would like to wake up to.

The little bamboo tabletop easel on the left provides a natural, Asian aesthetic to the vignette of white items. The artwork is just a postcard that has been pasted onto an artist’s gesso board — an inexpensive idea that seems terrific.

This small nude sketch could get dropped on a large white wall since it is such a subtle bit. But it pops into a metal tabletop easel sitting next to a modern flower arrangement and a sculpture.

In this casual dining room, the vertical nature of the black modern screen easel at the corner fills what could be a vacant space. It goes nicely with the rest of the fixtures in the room, for instance, black iron chandelier and the bottoms of this round table. All the frames in the area are black, providing fine congruity.

Is not this room romantic? The walls are so embelished that dangling anything on them would ruin the appearance. The portrait works nicely on the easel at the corner; it is almost as though it is another character in this female area.

Here is an example of a modern tabletop easel. Its presents the art at the perfect height and makes the black and white print seem to float in this eclectic vignette.
