DIY Fence Post Fix

Fences are both aesthetic and functional as they visually define areas of your yard while keeping animals or people in or out. A broken fence may still appear interesting in the ideal conditions, but it will not work well. Over time, a broken fence pole can result in greater problems, like a bent or bent bar. Or the fencing itself could collapse, allowing free passage to all.

Reset It

One common ailment of aging fences is the article slowly leans evenly until it pulls entirely free of the earth. When this happens, the article will pull on the fencing down as well, and the fence may become damaged beyond repair. Reset the fence pole before this occurs by digging a larger hole, then adding gravel in the base, bracing the pole upright with two-by-fours or cement blocks and filling the hole with quick-dry cement. You may need an assistant to achieve this task easily.

Replace It

Occasionally a fence post is beyond repair. The ideal thing to do is to replace it. If possible, transfer the weight of this fence into a temporary post put off to the side as you make repairs. If you can not set up a temporary post, you’ll need to put top rail supports on each side of the fence post to take the weight off the broken article. Sets of four-by-four poles, put at less than the usual 45-degree angle into the bottom, work nicely as supports since you can trim them to fit. After you’ve supported the very best rails independently, you can dig out the lousy article and put in a new one. Don’t remove the braces until the cement to your new article has had time to set entirely.

Reinforce It

You can damage a fence post by driving into it with a golf cart or riding lawnmower. When that happens, a wooden fence article may start to crack. If replacing the article is not an alternative, you can add metal or timber reinforcing around the article to prolong its lifespan. Nail two-by-fours on the impact side of the article and the opposite side to reduce the stress. Make sure you make your braces long enough to really go well beyond the distressed area so you are connecting the braces to great wood.

Insert Posts

It is possible to mend a stockade fence along with a privacy fence by adding articles forever to every side of the damaged pole. Dig the holes for the new posts so the poles will touch the cross bars of the fence once vertical. Put several inches of gravel at the bottom of the hole, then add cement and let it cure completely. When the new posts are firmly in the ground, connect them into the stockade or privacy fence crossbars. You may need to drill holes and insert large carriage bolts through the crossbars, slats and new post for some privacy fences. Together with stockade fences, tying the cross beams into the new poles may be sufficient and seem the very best.
