Birdie's Nest: Storybook Style Makes for a Marvelous Playhouse

A woman nicknamed Birdie has her very own unique nest within an Ohio backyard. It’s a playhouse inspired by her favourite novels, the Beatrix Potter tales her parents really like to read to her. Constructed when Birdie was 3, the playhouse is modeled following the family’s home, right down into the implanted urns on the front porch. Interior designer Susan Lobalzo tricked out the home inside for tea parties, reading and much more kiddo fun. Come like a little playtime inside this dreamy little house.

The playhouse was modeled following the principal house on the property, such as the lanterns along with the widow’s walk on the roof.

The family believes the home an heirloom that generations will enjoy, and plans to take it upon any future proceeds. It was designed to be loaded directly onto a semi truck.

Beatrix Potter’s children’s stories inspired the decor indoors. Artist Paulette Grubb created the mural of the mouse home in a tree.

Lobalzo custom designed every piece of furniture indoors — there are all of the accoutrements for a very fancy tea party. MacKenzie-Childs tea set bits moved the black and white accents on the china cabinet and checkerboard painted floor. Steve Marchand painted the floors, the stripes on the walls along with the clouds.

The frilly slipper seats were constructed to encourage teenagers, as Birdie loves to invite her parents for tea parties.

The playhouse is wired for power; a crystal chandelier Birdie’s mom found glows overhead.

A ladder contributes to a cozy bunk, where Birdie’s parents read her tales. She has spent nights camping outside with a parent.

The inside will be 5 feet by 11 feet, and the attic is 4 feet, 8 inches high, leaving just enough room for a kitchen. Pink chalkboard paint covers one wall.

The playhouse enlivens the rear corner of the yard. The trees’ leafy canopy keeps it cool in summer.

The house has been a dream of Birdie’s mother for her daughter, and she loves the notion of Birdie’s loving it with her wife one day.
