The Way To Hang Curtains to a Metal Patio Cover

A steel patio cover offers shade and some protection from the elements for you and your outside guests, but it provides little in the means of privacy or protection from pesky insects. Outside drapes installed under the patio covering offer the protection or privacy level you desire. Since the cover may not come with a way of curtain setup, sticky-backed hook and loop tape provides a way to hang the drapes and take them down, as required. Fabric-based drapes may be tied back onto places, or single panels tied to a whistle, when not in use.

Wipe down the inside edge or edges of the patio cover having a household cleaner and a damp sponge to remove dust and debris; otherwise, the hook-and-loop tape may not adhere. Permit the patio cover to dry fully.

Unroll the hook-and-loop tape, holding one end along the inner edge of the patio cover where you would like to install the curtain. Secure it in place temporarily with a squeeze clamp or large binder clip.

Continue unrolling the hook-and-loop tape, then walking toward the opposite end of the patio cover. Hold up the tape against the inner edge of the patio cover and snip it where you want the curtain to end. Use scissors, or a utility knife if cutting with scissors proves difficult.

Repeat Steps 1 through 3 for each side of the terrace cover demanding a curtain. Set every strip of hook-and-loop tape near its respective side to prevent confusion.

Step 1 inch or the desirable distance upward from the inner edge of the patio cover, then marking this spot every few feet around the patio cover with a pencil or marker. This guarantees the hook-and-loop tape is installed evenly.

Eliminate the sticky backing from the side of the hook-and-loop tape. Press the glue set and the inner edge of the patio cover, with the marked spots to line up the tape properly.

Eliminate the sticky backing from the rest of the portion of the hook-and-loop tape installed on the terrace cover. Hold the curtain panel up from your glue, enlisting one or two friends to smooth it down along the way to guarantee the curtain hangs straight. Clamp the corners of the panel in place with spring-loaded clamps temporarily to assist the glue set. Repeat the procedure with each curtain panel.
